After Kids are graduating from high school finding where they are going to attend college can be very difficult. I have already made this difficult decision. I am going to attend a junior college for two years. It will benefit me by saving me lots of money especially because I am not for sure on what I want to do in life, and I know I am not the only one that feels this way.
Not only are four-year universities expensive, but they are even worse if you aren’t sure on your major. Why spend thousands of dollars each year at a university on gen eds when you could be spending much less at the local junior college. In my opinion I think kids should spend two years at their local community college to fulfill their requirements at an affordable price. Then transfer to a University or college that has a good program for your major. Advantages of being at a Junior college is there less competitive to get into, the student’s you meet will tend to be more local and close to your age.
I know your thinking I wont get the whole college experience. You will still get your “college” experience your still going for two years! You will also still meet many people at the Junior College. This is just my opinion. You can tell me what you think though! (:
Logan,
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled that you are acknowledging your smart decision to attend community college. Not only are you making a smart money decision, but also you will probably be getting better teaching. Most of the four year colleges staff their ungraduate gen ed classes with teaching assistants, instead of fabulous and seasoned teachers like your 105 instructor.
;)
I'd like to hear what others think about the dorm experience...
I do agree with you esp with the fact if you do not know what you want to do. But I am not going to lie, I am not a big fan of ICC, and I dot not know if i can last here another year. I already know what I want to do and where University I want to go to. I want to go to ISU to major is education and I want to go next year. I know I will have to pay loans and what not, but I personally think it will be worth esp since I know what I want to do. Although my dad is totally on your side. He thinks I am really idiotic to even think about going to ISU next year. I tried to explain to him why i want to go there and he thinks they are just not good enough reasons. I they they might not be good enough reasons, but i cant even explain how much i hate a Jr. college and I always thought you should do what makes you happy. But deffenitly if you do not know what you want to do, then stay at a Jr. college.
ReplyDeleteLogan i agree with everything you said here. I wanted to go to isu right out of highschool, i had the grades and i got accepted, but i just didnt know what i wanted my major to be.I still have no clue what i want my major to be and i dont think ill know for a while and im hoping that by going to icc that it will help my chose one! Then after i chose a major ill transfer to isu and live my dream!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, right out of high school i wanted to go to a private college in chicago. But then a friend of mine who went to a private school right out of high school told me that going to a private shchool was one of the things she wished she did differently. She has been out of college for 4 years and is still paying her college bills. and she said she wished she would have gone to icc so she didn't have so many college bills to pay... Great topic!!!!
